double takes

If you never stop and take a look around, you might miss something.

It's easy to do. Just imagine that your bedroom is the only room in the house with a/c, so you're lying in bed, typing away at next week's lesson plans. You're trying to figure out how to convince yet another classroom of freshmen that writing actually matters (they still don't believe you). While you're imagining how to keep them engaged for two-and-a-half hours, you open up Photo Booth on your laptop.

And you're glad you did, because otherwise, you never would have noticed that you were in your own little sort of Rothko painting. See? If you hadn't stopped and looked around, you might have missed it.

Yay! I was hoping for another post soon. I love the picture...and the fact that you recognized that it looked like that painting. I love you! We miss you like crazy -only about a month more!

Look at you --- so cultured, so good at piecing together separate pieces of life, realizing it's all connected in the end. Way to be.

PS: make your freshman do Observations every once in a while. That's what got me to realize writing is important. You pick a subject matter(anything! shoe laces, how light catches a branch, dinner conversations, etc.)and you have to describe it every way possible. That's when I fell in love with writing and it made me SO aware of all that's around me.Just a thought.

Kath,

It was way fun to see you guys this last week! Bryson and I were talking about it, and we have a lot of fun with you both. We'll have to get together more often. See you tomorrow night!
