save the tree octopus

In my English class last week, I warned my students to be on guard for bogus or unreliable research sources. Just for fun, I showed them sites that warn against the dangers of Di-hydrogen Monoxide (water), tout the new drug Havidol ("when more is not enough"), and—most importantly—call on readers to save the Northwest Tree Octopus.

What are the odds? On that day, in that class, with fewer than 20 students present, one girl was wearing her "Save the Pacific Northwest Tree Octopus" T-shirt. I want one.

From the fag on the Di-hydrogen Monoxide site:

"Death due to accidental inhalation of DHMO, even in small quantities.
Prolonged exposure to solid DHMO causes severe tissue damage.
Excessive ingestion produces a number of unpleasant though not typically life-threatening side-effects.
DHMO is a major component of acid rain.
Gaseous DHMO can cause severe burns.
Contributes to soil erosion.
Leads to corrosion and oxidation of many metals.
Contamination of electrical systems often causes short-circuits."

I friggin' love it.

Chris,
I've been researching about what you said, but I only found one website that contradicts your article; it's from the Project for Excellence in Journalism, a website that analyzes all the media and reports on it. It's a very reliable place

Here's the website:

However, this is from May, and a lot can happen from then to now.
I know that from what i've heard, the biggest political story recently was about McCain's comercial, stating that all Obama is and can be is a celebrity.
Then Obama said it's a scare tactic, but the way he spoke of it made people think he was playing the race card.
but that's all i've heard recently.
