ch-ch-ch-ch-changes

Up until now, I feel like we've been pretending a little bit. We went to school and had our not-quite-real jobs. We sent in our pretend tax returns (pretend because we filled them out but were too poor for the government to charge us much). We played house very nicely in a little basement that we filled with too many toys—books, in our case.

But I feel like we're almost grown-ups now: we pay for our own internet (not sure why this seems like a serious step toward adulthood for me), my pregnant tummy's big enough that parenthood feels like a reality, and my husband has a real-live job. Legally, we've been adults for quite some time now; I just took my time adjusting to the change.

And the real-live job? C. now works at a fancy medical lab where he tests medical devices for cytotoxicity and biocompatibility. You'll have to ask him to explain what that means. It's very grown-up of him.

I had similar feelings when we bought our first (only) home. Growing up is a whole lot different than feeling grown up.

I still don't feel grown up when I sit and think about it. Sometimes I am yell, "Why am I the mom here!?! I don't know anything!!!" And I found a tiny wrinkle and Steve's hair is getting grey...and I still don't feel grown up. Maybe once Steve is out of medical school. I doubt it though. I love your blog. I'm excited to see your baby.

I am so feeling that way right now. We are in the process of buying our home and I'm freaking out. I can't be old enough to do this!

BTW, I'm so glad Claire is still safely inside of you after your plane rides!

Real life is so weird, especially grown-up life. I feel more like I have a "real" job now that I'm not teaching. When I taught, I would still say I was "going to school" instead of work. Now, I have to say "going to work," and part of me--although I like the job--thinks, ewwww.

Congrats to Christopher, and your swelling belly.

Yay Christopher! I hope this job is happy! It sounds very fancy. And Kathy, you should post another picture of your pregnant tummy so I can see. I miss you guys tons! March is just around the corner for that little baby girl!

Wait a minute. Aren't you the oldest of your siblings Kathy? You should've reached adulthood somewhere around age twelve.

I still feel like I'm pretending to be an adult sometimes- and I've got three kids. Life is strange that way, isn't it?
